WHAT THE M&S X SEPHORA COLLABORATION TELLS US ABOUT HIRING IN BEAUTY
29.09.26
The Collaboration
M&S has announced a strategic partnership with Sephora to create Sephora at M&S, a new beauty destination launching in selected M&S stores and on M&S.com from spring 2027. The plan is to bring Sephora to 100 high streets and retail parks across the UK.
The logic is simple: each partner brings what the other lacks. Sephora brings its beauty expertise, brand relationships and focus on discovery, and M&S brings its trusted brand, national presence and omnichannel platform. M&S has a lot to gain, holding just 1.3% of a £5.2 billion UK beauty market. Sephora gains reach on a new scale too, having been targeting 20 UK stores by the end of 2026.
Why This Matters Beyond M&S and Sephora
Collaboration is fast becoming beauty's growth model. Rather than building everything in-house, retailers and brands are partnering to reach new customers faster. For anyone hiring, or job hunting, in beauty, wellness and aesthetics right now, that's a useful signal.
New channels create new roles. The final brand line-up, including names new to M&S and Sephora exclusives, will be confirmed nearer launch. That means brands are pitching now, and they need account managers and commercial leaders who can win the space.
Retail expertise is back in demand. Specialist Sephora beauty teams will support customers in store. Building and training advisory teams across 100 doors takes serious retail and operations talent.
Partnership skills matter as much as product. Joint ventures like this rely on people who can negotiate, align two businesses and keep a launch on track. For candidates, experience of working across partners is becoming a real differentiator.
What This Means If You're Hiring or Job Hunting
For employers, now is the time to plan. If Sephora at M&S is on your 2027 roadmap, think about whether your sales, trade marketing and supply chain teams are ready for a brand new channel, before everyone else starts hiring for the same roles.
For candidates, collaborations like this are a good prompt to review your own experience. Have you launched into a new retailer, managed a key account through change or worked across a partnership? Those stories will carry weight over the next 12 months.
At We Are Refyne, this is exactly the kind of moment we spend our time thinking about, matching commercial beauty talent with the brands that need it most. If you're planning for 2027, we'd love to talk.
