JOONBYRD's Mood Jellies: A Wellness Hiring Lesson
09.10.26
The Moment
JOONBYRD, founded by dermatologist Dr Alexis Granite, has launched Mood Jellies, a collection of portable, solid fragrances that each target a specific emotional state. The brand positions them as a daily wellness ritual that sits between fragrance, neuroscience and skincare, applied to pulse points throughout the day.
The launch range has three jellies, each priced at £28, $38 or €35. Calm is built around violet, vetiver and cedarwood, Confidence around peach, saffron and oak moss, and Bliss around apple, jasmine sambac and labdanum. Each formula also contains a skincare ingredient sourced from thermal waters off Italy's Amalfi Coast, which the brand says supports skin and positive emotions.
The scale of the idea is what stands out. The formulas were developed using neuroscience research, including brain imaging and physiological monitoring, to look at how scent affects the parts of the brain linked to emotional wellbeing. This is a fragrance launch with a scientific story at its core.
Why This Matters Beyond JOONBYRD
Fragrance, skincare and wellness are blurring into one category. Consumers are no longer just buying a scent they like, they are buying a result, whether that is feeling calmer, more confident or more upbeat. A dermatologist founder and a research led product show how far the category is moving towards credibility and evidence.
That shift changes what a beauty team needs to look like. Brands launching functional fragrance need product development talent who can work with scientific insight, regulatory and claims expertise to make sure the story holds up, and marketers who can explain a complex idea in a way that feels simple and desirable.
What This Means If You're Hiring or Job Hunting
For employers, if you are building in wellness or functional beauty, think about who owns the link between the science and the story. NPD and innovation roles, regulatory and claims specialists, and brand marketers who can translate research into everyday language will all matter more as products make bolder promises.
For candidates, experience that crosses categories is becoming a real advantage. If you have worked across fragrance, skincare and wellness, or you can show you have launched a product backed by research or clinical input, that is exactly the kind of story worth leading with in an interview.
At We Are Refyne, this is exactly the kind of hire we spend our time thinking about, matching genuine industry expertise with the businesses that need it most. If you're planning a senior appointment, we'd love to talk.
